Abstrakt | The research project refers to the outstanding potential of poetry to enhance social spaces where people come to their voice, diligently reveal and conceal, are heard and listen to each other, argue their positions and assumptions – in short: find themselves in language. Schools and universities are supposed to provide equal learning opportunities for everyone. Simultaneously they tend to establish legitimate, authorized language, following traditional perceptions of knowledge and modes of decoding spoken/written texts, thus strengthening or weakening the position of particular individuals and groups. The research project reconceptualizes literacy focusing on social justice. It develops a concept where the writing of poetry offers equal learning opportunities for everyone as their experiences and perceptions codetermine what is considered as knowledge. Teaching artists will work with this concept with students in the elementary school affiliated to the University of Education Salzburg, teaching and encouraging students to write poems. | |
