Abstrakt

The main motivation for this project comes from the observation of a need, at European level, for flexible, accessible, and affordable learning tools, which are capable of helping the large majority of people working in the educational sector to access informal learning pathways for the autonomous improvement and assessment of their social competences in relation to the ever changing challenges posed by the active pursuit of cultural integration in schools and other educational settings, which often passed through difficult stages made of intercultural clashes and conflicts. This aspect is particularly highlighted in the recent Paris Declaration which, following the European priorities on education and training, has set the key priority of preparing teachers and educators for the massive cultural changes Europe is currently undertaking. That is, to make them able to take an active stand against all forms of discrimination and racism and to be able to deal with diversity and handling conflicts that might emerge.

The rationale for ACCORD is that of addressing this need by bridging social skills enhancement and assessment with the smart agenda proposed in the Europe 2020 strategy, which encourages the use of ICT methodology for extending the accessibility of resources and rebating their implementation and running costs. Therefore, the project rationale and motivations are deeply rooted in current European challenges and problems, as documented by the most recent EU Commission’s priorities and initiatives.

Main objectives of ACCORD project are:

to exploit, upscale and disseminate the results of already existing ICT tools and psycho-pedagogical practices in order to produce and test an easily accessible and flexible e-learning platform and training system that could facilitate the enhancement of conflict resolution skills development at a low cost;

to overcome both geographical and resource obstacles that often hinder the access to professional training and assessment schemes in intercultural communication and conflict resolution by exploiting ICT practices, especially within the educational sector;

to promote and evaluate the acceptance of Serious Games and Game-Based learning approaches in teachers' education, in order to derive observations and best practices from comparative analysis in various EU countries;

to adapt, upscale and generalise through the implementation and analysis of extensive testing the positive results obtained from the project ENACT: Enhancing Negotiation skills through on-line Assessment of Competencies and interactive mobile Training. A project funded by EACEA under the Lifelong Learning Programme - Key Activity 3.
